During the fall quarter in the Supermileage shop here at MSOE we have started to work on many projects spread between three different vehicles. The first vehicle that is being worked on is our gasoline powered prototype. This year’s design includes a completely new engine, the Briggs and Stratton Animal, due to rule modifications along with improvements to the carbon fiber body that was built last year.
The second vehicle being worked on is our battery electric prototype. A group of electrical engineering students are working on learning the system that is currently in place along with beginning design on a brushless motor system for the vehicle to improve efficiency. Work on the body is also being done to repair small damages to the carbon fiber body that occurred during last year’s competition.
Along with these two vehicles we also are beginning design on a chassis and steering system for a new gasoline powered prototype next year. Fabrication of this chassis and steering system is scheduled to begin in the next quarter.
